Re: “It’s the amount of meat that counts”, Have Your Say, December 17.
It is my duty to stop Eric Bahrt from misleading the readers. He quoted Dr Dean Ornish as saying, “Heart disease can even be reversed by a low-fat vegetarian diet.” What Dr Ornish said was that heart disease can be reversed with a combination of disciplined exercise, meditation, stress management, diet changes and emotional support. Ornish never said a low-fat vegetarian diet alone could do the job.
I don’t know if Eric is intentionally trying to mislead readers to promote veganism or he ingenuously misunderstands Ornish’s point, but whatever it is, The Nation must stop spreading his false and dangerous beliefs.
