Re: “Some pledges should be broken”, Have Your Say, May 21.
I do wish that Have Your Say’s master of distortion, Eric Bahrt, would refrain from deliberately misrepresenting, time and time again, what is said in this column by myself and others. I did not state that the former US presidents had actively “promised to move the US embassy to Jerusalem”. I said they had failed to implement the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act. Furthermore, it is patently absurd to claim that an administrative decision to move an office from one city to another should itself be blamed for “death and destruction”.
Instead, Bahrt should direct his finger of blame at the opportunism of Hamas in this latest escalation.
Hamas, always ready to please its Iranian client, whipped up its “peaceful Palestinian protesters” into planting explosive devices at the border fence and shooting and throwing stones at Israeli soldiers. That’s why they got shot.
