Biblical reasons for calling Christianity a religion of war

Re: “You have to know the book”, Have Your Say, May 17.

The Christian Bible contains numerous references to violence among them:

Numbers 31:7 “And they warred against the Midianites, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.”

1 Samuel 19:8 “And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him.”

Space does not permit me to quote the many others.

Unbelievers are of course to be killed:

Deuteronomy 17:5 “Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing [serving other gods], unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die”.

The First Crusaders went on to slaughter the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the Conquistadors spread Christianity by the sword.

The Bible of course ends with the prediction of a final battle, that of Armageddon.
