Has Have Your Say fallen into the hands of Russian trolls?

Re: “Hysteria surrounding Russian ‘threat’ is leading us towards World War III”, Have Your Say, April 18.

Both the US and British governments have reported that, since the recent air strikes in Syria, there has been a 2,000-per-cent increase in activity from Internet trolls and bots based in Russia, launching cyberattacks on Western targets and spreading fake news. Some of that fake news seems to have reached Have Your Say, courtesy of “HHB”, who claims that a Swiss laboratory has found that the Novichok nerve agent was not used in the Salisbury attack, but instead another substance available in the UK and the US.

Unfortunately for “HHB” and the other conspiracy theorists who have jumped on this story, the laboratory has denied making any such claim. Furthermore, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the officially recognised experts in this field, have analysed samples of the substance used in the Salisbury attack, and confirmed that it is “military grade” Novichok. Is “HHB” actually a troll or bot based in St Petersburg, or somewhere deep in the Siberian forest? I wouldn’t be at all surprised.
