Hope of Palestine’s liberation flickers back into life

It is gratifying that the United Nations Security Council has finally passed a resolution condemning Israel’s settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the first such resolution since 1980.

It is also one of the first acts of genuine brinkmanship taken by President Barack Obama, after a series of US vetoes against UN resolutions targeting Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian land. As such it offers a chance that Obama will be remembered for having done something of value to the whole of humanity.

It also rekindles hope, however faint, of the eventual liberation of Palestine, a land stolen from its original inhabitants.
