Re: “‘Trump phenomenon’ could be a lesson for Thailand: academics”, Front page, yesterday.
Let’s imagine The Donald becoming a candidate in the Thai general election next year. His policies would doubtless include round-the-clock bombing of Phnom Penh until some border temple or other was returned to Thailand. He would certainly pledge a high-voltage electric fence to keep out those unspeakable Myanmar people who are stealing the construction jobs of millions of honest Thais and denying them their daily bread. Not to mention his promise to close every go-go club in the land to boost a return to family values and as an energy-conservation measure to save electricity. Sadly, however, the candidate would eventually be disqualified from office after his birth certificate revealed he had been born in Africa.
