Permitting political appointees has killed off reform

Re: "Reform will have failed if education, police are left untouched", Letters, June 17.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news for letter-writer Chuck Dee, but reform has already failed. It failed in the 24-hour period it took the “appointees” on the reform council to reject the proposal that all lawmakers be elected. Such a move would have eventually put the right people in office, and problems with the police, education, corruption and so forth would have begun to be solved.

Thailand has the wrong people in office because too many of them are “appointed”. As long as that situation continues, so will all the other problems for which people are seeking solutions.
