Tens of thousands of people will line the banks of the Mekong River when Nakhon Phanom launches a week-long Illuminated Boats Festival from October 23 to 30.
Originally a small-scale festival originally aimed at paying respect to the Lord Buddha, a contest of illuminated boat processions has added colour to the event. The age-old celebration brings an end to the Buddhist Lent with a spectacular showcase of colourful and elaborate vessels. Call (042) 513 490-1.
