Giggs visit for Cambodia footie fiesta keeps fans on edge

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs OBE, who is the bookmakers early favourite to replace sacked Stoke City manager Mark Hughes, is likely to visit Cambodia for the first time to grace the opening of the annual sixth Tiger Street Football Festival taking off on January 18.



Social media outlets are abuzz with excitement that the 44-year-old Giggs who spent all his playing career at United with a record 632 appearances, will add great star value to the popular football event spread over eight towns.

There is no official word yet about his travel schedule or activities regarding the highly anticipated trip, but if he indeed makes it, this will be an unforgettable experience for Cambodian football fans.

Carrying a prize fund of $50,000, the shorter street version of the beautiful game will entertain fans in Sihanoukville, Kampong Speu, Battambang, Siem Reap, Poipet, Kampong Cham, Kandal and Phnom Penh, where the competition ends.

Meanwhile, Cambodia national side midfielder Thierry Chantha Bin is back in the Kingdom with his new side, Malaysia’s Terengganu FC, for a series of friendlies. Terengganu take on National Defence Ministry today at Olympic Stadium at 6:30pm.

Malaysian outfit Negeri Sembilan are also in town with their compatriots to face Metfone C-League clubs Phnom Penh Crown, Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng and Army.

Thierry Bin joined Terengganu from Thai League 2 side Krabi in December of last year.
