A group of parents and coaches from the Dusit Thani Hua Hin Soccer Academy travelled to Pala U Noi with Jungle Aid to conduct a coaching clinic for the children and hand out some kits last week.
Pala U Noi is a Karen village of approximately 40 houses with 200 people living on land next to the Burmese border which belongs to the Thai government. The people are considered stateless and lack basic amenities like running water.
A group of between 10 and 20 kids took part in a coaching session followed by a match and some shooting practise. Dusit Thani Hua Hin Soccer Academy head coach Steve Barbe said:
“These children play on one of the worst pitches you will ever see but it hasn't diminished their enthusiasm for the game. I hope this will be the first of many coaching clinics we put on in this community.”
Jungle Aid is a private charity bringing essential support to displaced people in and around Thailand as well as disadvantaged Thai families. Volunteer Terry Fox said,
“In spite of their very humble surroundings, the children of the Pala U Noi village are always eager to learn new things and really enjoy when people from outside the village come to visit and teach them. They were very happy and excited to play football and despite some rain and a slightly overgrown pitch the day was a complete success.”
The Dusit Thani Hua Hin Soccer Academy is grateful to Jungle Aid for arranging this trip and taking care of all the transport and logistics. Hopefully this will be the first of many DTHHSA coaching clinics at Pala U Noi.
DTHHSA sees football as a force for good in the local community. Other projects include a scholarship program which allows local children from impoverished backgrounds to train for free, with the academy's professional coaches on the grass pitches in front of the Dusit Thani Hotel.
