Thai No 1 Pornanong Phatlum finished with a 72 that earned her a weekend spot along with Ariya Jutanugarn in the Kraft Nabisco Championship at the Mission Hills Country Club in California on Friday.
Pornanong hit four birdies but had two bogeys and a double bogey on the 14th hole for a two-day total of one-under-par 143, which put her in joint 22nd place alongside Ai Miyazato, Shin Jiyai and Karrie Webb.
“I’m happy with the way I was playing. I just wished I could have done a bit better. I didn’t drive well, hitting the rough several times. My approach shots were good. I hope to drive better at the weekend and keep the score low,” said Pornanong.
Amateur Ariya, who just like Pornanong hit an opening 71 on Thursday, fired a 73 for an even par 144 on aggregate. She was at joint 33rd.
“My shots were just not on today and I just couldn’t save par because I didn’t chip well. That’s why I had four bogeys. I need to work harder on my short game and on my putts,” said Ariya, whose elder sister Moriya failed to make the cut. The latter had seven over 151.
“In fact, I think the course is easier than last year and I am more confident now. I just have to raise my game and hope to finish better than last year,” added the 17-year-old Ariya.
