W Hotels Worldwide Group spreads its wings in China with the opening of the W Suzhou Hotel on the banks of Jinji Lake.

A 90-minute drive from central Shanghai, this new property is owned by Suzhou Industrial Park Jinji Lake Urban Development and takes inspiration from the historic city’s Unescolisted classical gardens.

“We are always looking to bring W Hotels to exciting new destinations. Wherever there is a common passion for innovation and new lifestyle experiences, we see an opportunity to redefine the hospitality market, beyond the world’s most wellknown cities,” said Anthony Ingham, global brand leader, W Hotels Worldwide.

“Suzhou has dramatically transformed over the last decade, welcoming modern design, art and culture, and is quickly becoming a goto spot for global travellers. We look forward to welcoming guests to W Suzhou and are excited to bring the energy and bold design W Hotels is known for to one China’s hottest growing travel destinations.”

Designed by Rockwell Group, the hotel combines traditional and natural elements that are integrated into the brand’s aesthetic, reinterpreting lakes, rocks, pavilions and gates as levitating elements woven throughout the hotel.

The entrance is amplified with contemporary interpretations of ancient Suzhou through modern art and design and the porte cochere is adorned with the “Crystal Cloud,” a dichroic acrylic and metal chandelier that simulates the subtle flow of clouds through changes in lighting and mist.

A place to unwind and socialise, the Living Room welcomes travellers with pebble-like seats, which are inspired by the rocks in the classical gardens for which Suzhou is known. The walls feature photographic works of historic Suzhou alongside contemporary pieces.

“Greater China has become one of the most important markets for Marriott International,” said Stephen Ho, chief executive officer, Greater China, Marriott International. “Suzhou is known for its classical gardens and canals, but the area is also rapidly developing into a key business hub in the Jiangsu Province. The scenic city, also known as the Venice of China, attracts millions of business and leisure travellers annually, proving its readiness to welcome an iconic international brand like W into this key market.”

The hotel offers 379 guestrooms and suites in 11 types, with bathtubs, desks and beds all having the illusion of floating in space whist overlooking stunning views of Jinji Lake.

There are 45 suites including two 400-square-meter Extreme Wow Suites, raising the bar on design and innovation for the entire destination. W Suzhou also features 60 serviced residences of one, two and three-bedroom units, available to rent for long-term luxurious living or stays of 30 days or longer with exclusive access to REZ, a dedicated lounge for coworking, socialising or just chilling out.

Four distinct restaurants and bars provide epicurean thrills, each featuring unparalleled views of Jinji Lake. An imaginative twist on Spanish classics lure guests into Suzhou’s first authentic Spanish restaurant, Toro Loco, located on the 37th and 38th floors with views of all three Suzhou lakes.

Meanwhile the Su Yan Chinese fine dinning restaurant refers to the local silk trade in creating a dramatically colourful arrival experience. Once inside, Jiangzhe and Chaozhou cuisines are dished up daily. Guests can also cosy up with allday international favourites at the 220-seat The Kitchen Table.

WooBar is a lounge for more than 180 guests, with the stylish curved design and bright natural daylight creating an ideal locale for casual business meetings and daytime socialising. By night, the space transforms into a vibrant cocktail bar, bumping to the eclectic beats from two DJ stages.

Guests can make a splash at Wet, Suzhou’s highest pool on the 36th floor, or get pumped up at the Fit gym equipped with the latest TechnoGym equipment including treadmills, cycling machine and boxing machines.

The Away Spa will pamper guests with Givenchy amenities, while the Detox Beauty Bar offers guests nutritious salad options, detox beverages and healthy mocktails, giving guests the energy to look good, feel good, go longer and stay later.
