French fashion brand The Kooples recently launched its new collection for autumn-winter by taking fans on a musical journey from one festival to another, from back stages to more intimate rehearsals and revisiting folk, rock and punk inspirations from the 60’s to the 80’s.
“Festival”, the brand’s first mini-collection under its “After The Show” umbrella, evokes the folk music festival through a slightly retro style and psychedelic floral designs in pastel shades. Baroque inspiration and Motown influences give the second collection, “Juke-Box”, a unique rhythm and a new energy. The contrast of black and red is softened by precious gold details; embroidered foliage embellishes the velvet of a bomber jacket while feather patterns enlighten the fluid muslin. Butterfly prints and gilding give a royal essence to this collection.
The Kooples’ rebel sprit in evident in “Jamming”, which displays a touch of punk over the key pieces of the Parisian brand’s range. Black and burgundy interact while leather, studs and metallic braids inject an urban note. Leather skirts and tartan coats give the collection a distinct British sprit.
For winter The Kooples get inspired by reinvented oriental rhythms coming from Japan with “Remix”, a collection that mixes flowers, hummingbirds and peacocks prints for pieces infused with mystery, Dragon embroidery, lace inserts and velvet details are enhanced by transparent effects and lengths for an almost dreamlike girlish look.
As a tribute to the western sprit and to country influences, the Kooples offer the “Acoustic” mini-collection – a mix of masculine prints, plaid or tie patterns with Jacquard knit ponchos in Native American style and kilts worn underneath a leopard coat. The prints are also present, with fields of poppies and rodeo bestiaries giving a folk touch to fluid dresses that are a perfect fit for the lace up boots in suede leather.
Live Recording, the last collection of the season, reconciles elegance, rock vibes and femininity.
Freely inspired by the pure rock ’n’ roll spirit of The Kooples and Jimi Hendrix’s mythical style, this collection is characterised by black and burgundies embellished with golden trimmings and embroidery. The skirt-jacket suit is revisited in bright tweed and, the key fabric of winter, the velvet, warms the silhouette over the dresses or pumps. Bibs and trimmings embroidered with pearls highlight the femininity of these pieces to produce a look worthy of being worn on stage as well as on the trendiest back stages.
