Specs with a soupcan factor

Italian eyewear brand Tavat has brought its new limited-edition glasses to Thailand and Soupcan 2.0, as the collection is known, is now available at two Bangkok boutiques.

The glasses, which feature natural melanin-coloured lens, are being distributed by Cobalt International and were recently introduced to customers and celebrity guests Pumi Sarasin, Vorarit Feungarom, Patchai Bhakdisusook, Louis Scott and Rmida Praphasnobol at an event organised by the company’s managing director Trinupab “Jedi” Jiratritarn at Quince Eatery & Bar on Sukhumvit Soi 45. 

Tavat is designed by Norman Schureman and is the only brand to offer LT Melanin Lenses, which provide 100-per-cent UV protection and also protect the eyes against HEV (High-Energy Visibility) that can damage the eyes when staying in a place with direct sunlight for a long time. The new technology has been patented by the brand. 

“The Soupcan 2.0 collection is lighter weight than the 1.0 model but retains the classic easy-to-wear shape. The limited edition has been developed because we want people to try wearing glasses with natural melanin-coloured lens, in which yellow is the natural color of melanin pigment. Yellow-lens eyewear can also be paired with outfits easily to complete the look,” Jedi says.

The collection is inspired by antique aviation eyewear, which bears a resemblance to a can when looked at from the side. The design team has brought this idea to the new specs by using the soup can as a primary shape for the stainless steel and acetate frame.

Just 50 pieces are available at Waltz Vision shop, K Village Shopping Centre and on the second floor of Siam Paragon.
