Central Department Store turns 70 this year and is celebrating this momentous occasion over the next seven months by introducing a range of new shopping options.
Speaking at the “70 Years of Central Department Store” press conference on Wednesday at Park Hyatt Bangkok, the group’s CEO Yuwadee Chirathivat noted that Central department store has been part of the Thai lifestyle for the last seven decades, with services expanding over the years into nine major groups specifically responding to the different needs of customers both domestically and internationally.
“Quality control is strictly monitored so that we can achieve a leading position on the international stage of luxury department stores. This can be seen through the several awards we have received after our takeover of such big names as La Rinascente, Milan, which won the World’s Best Department Store 2016 from the Intercontinental Group of Department Stores), Illum in Copenhagen, which has been named “Purveyor to Her Majesty” by Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark for its quality standards both in terms of products and services, and KaDeWe’s landmark stores in Berlin, Alsterhaus, Hamburg, and Oberpollinger, Munich,”
With today’s shopping behavior becoming borderless, Central is upgrading its service area by launching the new website, AuxVillesDuMonde.com (AVDM) and a smart phone application under the same name to enhance the customer’s shopping experience both at Central Department Stores in Thailand and other luxury stores under the Central Group with complete interconnection throughout all branches.
In collaboration with Conde Nast, Italy, it has developed an application to provide a database of travel information in each destination that lists stores under the group and provides reservation services for hotels, restaurants and exclusive items through a user-friendly booking interface putting customers directly in touch with the stores’ concierges anywhere and at any time.
Nidsinee Chirathivat, Co-President of Central Department Store, also talked about the changes that would be made to the store’s image, ranging from the brand’s font and the signature rose logo to turning it into “a second home that transcends generation.”
The launch of the new look of Central app accompanying the anniversary offers a seamless shopping experience to customers. Both online and offline shopping can be made with absolute ease with interactive information providing gender-categorised promotions, integrated individual insights along with updates on fashion trends and lifestyle. The new services include Personal Shopper, a shopping advisor and Beautiful Friday.
Central also provides a demonstration kitchen where customers can try out kitchenware before buying, entertaining activities for kids and a Men’s Gadget section selling headphones, GoPro cameras and even drones.
The group will also offer a “Wow Promotion” from Monday (July 17) with cash vouchers valued at Bt700 for every Bt2,000 spent.
The press conference ended with the screening of “Heartbeat”, a short film by “One Day” director Banjong Pisanthanakun starring Violette Wautier, who also sings a special song celebrating 70 years of Central Department Store.
