Controversial rock star Seksan Sukphimai, also widely known as “Sek Loso”, was on Thursday jailed for one year and 18 months for violating the Firearms Act, obstructing a police operation with a threat of gun use, and drugs abuse.
Later in the afternoon the singer was granted a bail release with a Bt500,000 guarantee.
This latest sentence will be added to the jail term of one year and three months plus a Bt2,000 fine that was given to him in 2016 for assaulting his ex-wife's female close aid, and another jail term of five days and a Bt2,000 fine in March, for shooting a gun skywards in a Nakhon Si Thammarat temple on December 29, 2017.
The assault case punishment had been suspended for two years but since the rocker committed offences later it will now be enforced.
Bangkok's Min Buri Provincial Court gave this latest verdict concerned an incident on New Year's Eve 2018 when police tried to arrest the gun-wielding rocker at his home in Kannayao area. He obstructed police with a threat to use his unregistered gun. At the time, the rocker's urine test result proved positive for narcotics substance abuse.
Following his release at 5.10pm from detention room, Seksan embraced his girlfriend Apisaya “Eve” Pattanaworasap with tears brimming in his eyes and briefly said to reporters, "I'm leaving. Thank you" before departing from the court compound in a car. His ex-wife Wiphakorn Sukpimai was also there to give him morale supports.
The singer reportedly suffered from a bi-polar disorder which led to days of the rocker’s seemingly erratic behaviour on Facebook Live posts in August. It prompts Wiphakorn, their 21-year-old son Settakarn “Sua” Sukpimai and Seksan’s current girlfriend Apisaya convened an intervention to check Seksan into a hospital for bipolar disorder treatment afterwards. Seksan's lawyer declined to give any detail for defence on court but said Seksan still had the bipolar symptoms - which is backed by a medical certificate and prescribed medicines in ready to show a court - so people should sympathised with him.
