Phi Phi Village Beach Resort has launched an educational programme to teach children about the importance of environmental preservation and sustainability.

Under this initiative, 14 pupils, six parents and four teachers from Koh Phi Phi’s LaemTong School visited the resort’s new Marine Discovery Centre to learn about the island’s underwater environment and meet with its resident marine biologist, Kamolwat Napadolrungrueang.

During the visit, Kamolwat explained about Phi Phi’s vibrant marine world, the delicate balance of aquatic ecosystems and the damaging impact of pollution and debris. The children were also able to feed four species of clownfish.

Following the first visit, the Marine Discovery Centre welcomed regular groups from LaemTong School. This forms part of a long-term programme to boost understanding of sustainability among residents.

The discovery centre houses a series of colourful, interactive displays that explain the life cycles and behaviour of many marine species. This unique attraction also operates a special programme to re-introduce clownfish and bamboo sharks to Phi Phi.
