The chief of the Royal Irrigation Department (RID), Somkiat Prajamwong, has been named director of the newly created National Water Resources Management Office, while deputy director-general Thongplew Kongchan will take over as RID chief.
The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) exercised its absolute powers under Article 44 to issue Order No 52/2560 on Wednesday, announcing the personnel changes.
Many water experts cheered the appointments, as they saw both individuals as fit for their new roles.
The National Water Resources Management Office is a new water management agency, which is directly under the command of the prime minister. It was created by NCPO Order No 46/2560 on October 26 and its main task is to oversee the integrated water management plan.
