The Supreme Court yesterday scheduled August 24 for the first hearing into charges of campaign violations against former deputy agriculture minister Suphachai Phosu.

State prosecutors have accused Suphachai of violating election rules by abusing his office to promise funds and pay hikes to participants of a government training workshop in exchange for voting for Bhum Jai Thai candidates in a by-election in Nakhon Phanom in 2009.

A nine-member panel from the Election Cases Division, including chairman Chaist Trachutham, will preside over the case.
