Discover Japan without leaving Thailand at The Mall’s “Japan Discovery Shoryudo: Dragon Rise Region” running until September 18 at the Grand Hall of The Mall Bang Kapi before heading to The Mall Korat from November 11-21.
Sponsored by Thai Life Insurance, AEON Thana Sinsap (Thailand), JTB Japan and Thai Namthip Commercial with the support of the Embassy of Japan in Thailand, the event features Japanese meals, desserts, products, and cultural experiences from Shoryudo and also marks the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Japan.
Following the route of the rising dragon region of Shoryudo, the festival brings the very best of nine prefectures – Toyama, Ishikawa, Fukui, Nagano, Gifu, Shizuoka, Aichi, Mie and Shiga – to Thailand.
Menu highlights are Hida Beef from Hida in Gifu prefecture and “Eel on the rise”, a speciality of both Shizuoka and Mie prefectures. Also worth trying are “Miso Katsu” from Aichi prefecture, “Gold curry on rice” from Ishikawa that’s usually served on a silver platter and garnished with a chiffonade of raw cabbage, premium tea from Shizuoka prefecture, also used to flavor ice cream and waffles, and Wasabi from Nagano, reputed to be the best in Japan.
Dessert include Urio, a confectionary that is well-known in Nagoya and Unagi Pie from Hamamatsu, Shizuoka. The confection contains fresh water eel fished in Hamana Lake that’s said to be the best tasting in Japan.
Visitors can also enjoy Iga Ninja, an Ashura Ninja performance by the Ashura army of the Ninja Museum of Igaryu, the crafts and arts of a ninja warrior, and discover the witty contraptions of a ninja household, complete with secret passageways and traps. Kids will love the mock-up of the village called Shirakwako, a world heritage site high in the mountains.
