Airport of Thailand announced four days ago that it will close the east runway during June 11-August 9, for the first renovation after the airport was opened in 2006. The operator did not expect any troubles as the period is normally a low season. Now, the airport caters service to 120,000 passengers per day, against 170,000 during the high season. It is also coordinating with airports under its supervision like the ones in Chiang Mai and Phuket, as well as U-Tapao. They could provide supporting services in case of emergency.

In a statement issued today, Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia, said that as a result of the renovation, some flight times and schedules may be affected. Passengers are advised to stay alert and informed about their travel schedule by checking their flight times once they arrive at the airport in order to proceed with their travel plans accordingly.
