Police Commissioner-General Chakthip Chaijinda has sent condolences to the family of a "depressed" deputy station chief in Chumphon who committed suicide on Wednesday.
Deputy spokesman Col Krissanan Pattanacharoen said Chakthip has sent condolences to the family of Lt Col Pattana Kongchang, deputy commander of Sawee police, who shot himself in a hotel in Chumphon's Muang district on Wednesday.
A 9mm pistol was found near the right hand of Pattana who had a wound in his head.
The spokesman said the police officer has been suffering from hypertension and depression for years and he sometimes failed to take his medicine properly.
The spokesman said Pattana’s commander has been instructed to ensure that his family would receive proper benefits.
