A drug suspect who checked into a Hat Yai hotel in Songkhla with his pregnant wife and five-year-old daughter, using them as cover in an attempt to make out he was a tourist, was arrested in a sting operation on Monday night.
Krissana Meewong, 28, was arrested inside the hotel room when an undercover policeman came to buy drugs from him, as scheduled.
Sobbing, Krissana told police that his wife knew nothing about the drugs trade and that he had only brought her along with their daughter to give the impression that he was merely a tourist.
He said his wife was expected to deliver their second child soon.
Police searched the room and found 9.92 grams of crystal meth, or “ice”, which Krissana said he had bought for reselling.
Police then escorted the suspect to search his house, also in Hat Yai district, but they did not find any more drugs on the premises.
However, while they were searching the house, another man knocked at the door, and police found he had 5 grams of crystal meth on him.
He told police that he had come to return the ice because he found it be of low quality.
