A car transporting kratom leaves crashed into a pedestrian then careered into a drain, killing both the pedestrian and the driver in Krabi province on Tuesday morning.
Kusol Kaewrattana , 31, from Sadao, Songkhla, lost control of his Toyota Fortuner that was transporting 30 sacks of kratom leaves and crashed into Lek Sae-Iew, 68, who was walking out from a nearby restaurant.
The car dragged the woman for 20 metres before running into the drain and crashing into a large pipe.
Authorities said the woman died at the scene when she was struck by the vehicle, while the driver was rushed to Klong Thom Hospital but died later.
Leading up to the incident, Kusol was driving on Petchakasem Road from Trang heading to Krabi. Police are investigating the source of the kratom leaves.
