A team of officials on Sunday checked safety equipment and measures on a big ferry in Koh Samui district to boost safety for tourists.
The inspection was made during the high-season for tourism.
Seatran Ferry 8, which can carry up to 633 passengers and 80 tonnes of vehicles, plies on the Surat Thani province mainland and Samui Island route.
“We checked how it is moored at the pier and its equipment, including life-saving tools,” Wichai Kamkong, who heads the Marine Office Region 4, said.
He added that relevant agencies should also keep ferry operators and fishermen updated about weather conditions.
