Two of the world’s most popular social media platforms paid tribute on Friday to the memory of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Twitter launched an emoji for the people of Thailand and those around the world who wished to honour the anniversary of the late King’s passing.
This is the first time Twitter has created a special emoji for Thailand. The emoji is activated when users include the following hashtags in their tweets: #คิดถึงพ่อ #เรารักในหลวง #ทรงพระเจริญ #KingRama9#KingBhumibol.
The new hashtag immediately trended as the most popular in Thailand, followed by #KingBhumibol.
The social media website also sent their condolences and best wishes for the nation.
The emoji will run from October 13 until November 1. In honour of the anniversary of King Bhumibol’s passing, the last official month of mourning and his funeral, Twitter will also pause all advertising on the platform in Thailand for three days, from October 25- 27.
“No words can describe the impact that King Bhumibol has had on Thailand,” said Kathleen Reen, Director of Public Policy and Philanthropy, Twitter Asia Pacific.
“In remembrance of His Majesty, we hope this emoji will help unite Thai people and those who love Thailand all around the world as they mourn and commemorate King Bhumibol.”
Search engine Google also turned its multi-coloured logo black as a mark of respect to the late King.
