Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha visited Sakon Nakhon – the hardest-hit province in recent flooding in the northeast – on Wednesday.
Prayut landed in an Air Force plane at the Sakon Nakhon International Airport at 9.30am, and was welcomed by Sakon Nakhon Governor Witthaya Chanchalong, who briefed him on the situation.
Prayut was also briefed by Royal Irrigation Department director-general Sanchai Ketuworachai, who said officials were racing against time to drain flood water from the Nong Han lake to Lam Nam Kam canal to the Mekong, via Nakhon Phanom.
Prayut said that His Majesty the King had concerns for the people affected by the on-going flooding and had told the government to help the people.
The King also granted necessities and sent his officials to cook food for the people of Sakon Nakhon.
Prayut said the government had approved an extra budget to provide rehabilitation for flood victims.
