The National Rice Policy Committee approved the sale of 1.35 million tonnes of rice worth Bt13.19 billion to 41 bid winners out of the 2.86 million tonnes put up for auction.

Duangporn Rodphaya, director-general of the Foreign Trade Department, said the remaining rice could not be sold because the prices offered were too low.

The government will keep the remaining stocks for the next round of auctions.

The committee also agreed to open another bidding for 3.66 million tonnes of rotten rice on March 23, which will be supplied for industrial, feeedmeal and biofuel uses.
