The Ministry of Education will mobilise 7,500 volunteers from students in vocational education as well as those in non-formal and informal education across the country to help relief efforts in areas hit by flooding in the South.
Deputy Education Minister M L Panadda Diskul on Monday chaired a meeting to ways to aid flood victims in 12 southern provinces after the ministry was assigned by the government to take care of people in the flood aftermath.
The ministry has divided its work into two parts.
Firstly, they will send the thousands of student volunteers to help people in affected areas, starting from Friday this week.
In they second stage, they will provide educational equipment and school uniforms for institutions and students affected by the flooding.
