Authorities are trying to determine why as many as 14 manta rays were found dead in Mae Klong River in Samut Songkhram province.
“It’s strange because they apparently didn’t die of water pollution. We have not seen any other fish dead in the river,” Samut Songkhram’s fisheries chief Uthai Singtothong said Friday.
He said the provincial governor has convened a meeting of relevant officials to discuss the manta ray deaths.
“We have sent their bodies for examination. We have also checked the quality of the river’s water,” Uthai said, adding that the results would be known soon.
