Kathmandu (dpa) - A US citizen of Russian origin died in a climbing accident in the Himalayan mountains of Nepal Wednesday, police said.
The accident occurred on Mt Amadablam, a 6,812-metre peak in the Mt Everest region.
"A 42-year-old man identified as Ashurly Murad Zaurovich, died after falling about 100 metres downhill," said Bhanubhakta Nepal, a police officer stationed at the Solukhubu district.
"He was on his way down from Camp 2 to Camp 1 on Tuesday, when a rope snapped and he fell.
"The body was flown to Kathmandu's Teaching Hospital for autopsy.
The victim was on an expedition of six climbers.
