Beijing - China is sending more ships to assist the latest Australian-led efforts in the search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 in the southern Indian Ocean, a news report said Friday.

Chinese authorities sent orders for the research icebreaker Xue Long, or Snow Dragon, currently in Perth, to set sail as soon as possible for the search area more than 2,500 kilometres south-west of the western Australian port, Xinhua news agency reported.
The icebreaker is the same vessel that was drafted in over the new year to help free a Russian research vessel which became trapped in Antarctic ice.
Xue Long and four rescue vessels will join three Chinese naval ships already on their way to the area - where satellite imagery was on Thursday reported to have spotted possible debris from the plane – as well as a number of Australian and US ships and aircraft currently combing the seas.
