INTERNATIONAL tourists to Vietnam reached nearly 1.2 million in February, increasing 19.1 per cent on month and 42.2 per cent on year.
After surpassing the milestone of one million foreign visitors in January, foreign visitors continued to increase last month.
The country welcomed 2.2 million international visitors in the first two months of this year, up 33 per cent from the same period last year, the General Statistics Office reported.
In 2016, Vietnam’s tourism industry welcomed a record 10 million foreign tourists – up 25 per cent – and served 62 million domestic visitors.
The industry expects to receive 11.5 million foreign visitors and 66 million domestic ones this year, generating 460 trillion dong (Bt704.4 billion).
The industry also aims to receive 17 million-20 million international tourists annually and serve 82 million domestic visitors by 2020, contributing 10 per cent to gross domestic product.
Tourism revenue is expected to reach US$35 billion (Bt1.2 trillion).
