Museum Siam is hosting an oldtime picnic and outdoor film screening next Saturday (April 15) starting at 6.30pm.
The movie, “Art and Craft” from the Documentary Club, follows Mark Landis, one of the most prolific art forgers in US history, as he is exposed and confronts the legacy of his 30year career. For over 30 years, he duped curators throughout the country with precise imitations of a vast range of works, from fifteenth century masterpieces to Picasso.
His actions were mysterious to many – while he could fetch millions on the open market, he donated his counterfeits for free, going so far as to pose in such guises as a Jesuit priest or a philanthropic donor.
Enter Matthew Leininger, a registrar from Cincinnati who had been conned by Landis years earlier and been pursuing him obsessively ever since. What begins as a game of catandmouse between Leininger and Landis eventually turns into something more surprising and complicated, proving once again that truth can be stranger than fiction.
The movie is directed by award winning filmmakers Sam Cullman and Jennifer Grausman.
