Uniqlo unveils its new collections for autumn and winter in a preview that has Thai stars sashaying on the catwalks

Japanese ready-to-wear brand Uniqlo has received a warm welcome from Thai fashionistas and has gone ahead with its plans to expand on the four stores it’s already opened in the past 12 months. Today, the label announced that two more stores will throw open their doors later this year at Siam Paragon and The Mall Bang Kapi.

Uniqlo is also previewing its autumn and winter 2012 collection, which continues to offer customers a wide selection of products for men, women, children and babies, all of it fashionable, functional and of high-quality. The collection features trendy colour variations ranging from burgundy, orange, green and blue to basic white and camel.

The highlights include the DIP (Designers Invitation Project) collection, a collaboration with such well-known Japanese designers as GVGV, Balcony and Bed, Double Standard Clothing, and Good Morning Beautiful People. For the UT collection, Uniqlo collaborates with Eric Elms on a range of clothing designed for everyday life.

Key items are the Uniqlo Ultra Stretch Jeans, which have the look and feel of genuine denim combined with incredible stretch. Designs come in a variety of vivid colours, including traditional indigo. The women’s lines stretch beautifully to offer a great, snug fit without ever feeling constrictive. The men’s products offer a comfortable fit without the stiffness and tightness that usually comes with jeans.

Easy Pants presents its most extensive Corduroy line up ever. With exciting hues including warm orange and burgundy as well as a striking blue, the label offers the Corduroy Legging Pants for women. For men, the Corduroy Easy Pants line comes in a selection of 11 colours ranging from this season’s hottest tones to autumn classics.

A must have item for this season even in Thailand’s winter is the “Ultra Light Down” collection as seen on Louis Scott, Cherman Boonyasak, and Phisinee Tanwiboon on the catwalk at the preview event. The new Ultra Light Down collection boasts a large range of silhouettes, colours, and prints –both patterned and two-colour block. The entire collection, including men’s and women’s lines, totals some 100 different items. New designs this season include the casual, yet elegant, women’s A-line silhouette with a three-quarter sleeve, as well as a men’s half-length silhouette. With a unique ultra-lightweight quality equivalent to three eggshells, the Ultra Light Down jackets also makes the perfect under layer to achieve extra warmth.

Every year, Uniqlo presents its innovative line. This time, the Uniqlo Innovation Project (UIP) products, created by Uniqlo’s creative director Naoki Takizawa, Nicola Formichetti, and Kashiwa Sato, represent the ultimate in everyday apparel. Highlights of this season include the fleece-lined wind-proof water-repellent block tech jacket and the “Dry” warm up shorts for men and women.
