A man, 84, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing his estranged wife after he failed to persuade her to return home, police said.
Jorn Khanprakhone was arrested shortly after he allegedly killed his wife, Ngon, 74, with a cleaver in front of Ngon's daughter's house in Ban Ta-i village in Tambon Ban Kruad of Buri Ram's Ban Kruad district.
Their relatives called the police to arrest him shortly after the alleged murder.
Jorn reportedly told police that both him and Ngon used to have separate homes but they decided to live together five years ago. But on August 1, they had a quarrel and Ngon returned to stay with her daughter.
Jorn said he tried several times but failed to convince his wife to return. He purportedly unsuccessfully tried again on Wednesday morning so he killed her out of anger.
