The front end of the pickup was badly damaged in the accident at Namkhao-Koh Lanta Road. About 20 metres away, the Klong Thom Police found a van with Trang province licence plates had flipped over in the roadside drain and suffered damages to its front and side.

Pickup driver, 50-year-old Niran Kan-Iad, was severely injured and died later.

Six Thais and four Chinese tourists were injured. Van driver Yuthana Patipimin, 32, was hurt along with the passengers of the pickup truck – Sukanya Bobthong, 32; Suwanna Himma, 59; Boonmee Bahob, 59; Saela Jaiboon, 62; and Jirapat Kan-Iad, a six-year-old boy.
