A Thai pickup driver is dead and 10 people injured, including four Chinese tourists, after he lost control on a curve and crashed into a van in Krabi.
The front end of the pickup was badly damaged in the accident at Namkhao-Koh Lanta Road. About 20 metres away, the Klong Thom Police found a van with Trang province licence plates had flipped over in the roadside drain and suffered damages to its front and side.
Pickup driver, 50-year-old Niran Kan-Iad, was severely injured and died later.
Six Thais and four Chinese tourists were injured. Van driver Yuthana Patipimin, 32, was hurt along with the passengers of the pickup truck – Sukanya Bobthong, 32; Suwanna Himma, 59; Boonmee Bahob, 59; Saela Jaiboon, 62; and Jirapat Kan-Iad, a six-year-old boy.
The four Chinese tourists injured in the van were Li Bing, 21; Cao Yiran, 20; Zhang Zhihong, 21; and Yang Shangdai, 21.
All those injured were sent to Klong Thom Hospital and transferred later to Krabi Hospital.
After an investigation, police found that the pickup truck was driving towards Koh Lanta while the van was driving in the opposite lane. The pickup truck lost control in a curve and crossed into the opposite lane, colliding with the van.
