A husband allegedly shot his wife dead before turning the gun on himself at their Bangkok townhouse on Friday night, police said.
The couple were identified as Aree Pattanawitthayakul, 58, and her husband, Laemthong Kangwalphaisan, 77. They lived in a townhouse on Thien Thalay Soi 20 in Bangkok’s Bang Khunthien district.
The Bang Khunthien Police Station was alerted to the shooting past midnight on Saturday.
The son of the deceased couple had gone out and found their bodies when he returned late at night.
Aree was shot four times while sitting on a sofa in the living room. Laemthong died of a gunshot wound to his right temple. He was found holding a .38 revolver in his right hand.
A neighbour, Prakai Deeprai, 48, told police that she heard gunfire at 9.30pm but she thought it was the sound of firecrackers.
The son told police that his parents often quarrelled after his mother invested money in a clothes business and suffered a loss about a year ago.
