Thai Airways International (THAI) and Thai Smile Airways will schedule extra flights between the main domestic airports and Bangkok during the Royal Cremation ceremonies for His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
The move is to facilitate the people from upcountry wishing to attend the historic event.
The government recently announced the official schedule for the Royal Cremation ceremonies for HM the late King to be held on October 26 at the Sanam Luang Ceremonial Ground in Bangkok. It has been declared a national public holiday this year.
THAI and Thai Smile have joined forces to facilitate people living in the provinces who wish to travel to pay respects to His Majesty.
The additional domestic flights will be operated from October 23 to 31 to meet the transport needs of passengers attending the ceremony.
Thai Airways will add 11 daily roundtrip flights between Bangkok and Phuket, five roundtrip flights a day between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, three roundtrip flights per day between Bangkok and Krabi and twice daily roundtrip flights between Bangkok and Samui. This means it will operates a total of 183 flights and offer more than 110,000 passenger seats.
Thai Smile will increase its Bangkok-Udon Thani flights to five roundtrips per day, plus four daily roundtrips Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani, six daily roundtrips Bangkok-Khon Kaen, seven Bangkok-Hat Yai, three Bangkok-Surat Thani, two Bangkok-Krabi, five Bangkok-Phuket, two Bangkok-Narathiwat, seven Bangkok-Chiang Mai, and three Bangkok-Chiang Rai. Altogether, it will operate 393 flights with over 131,000 passenger seats.
In addition, THAI’s Ground Customer Services will provide extra assistance for group check-in. Passengers may check-in three days in advance of the departure date by calling THAI’s head office on 0-2545-4159, Monday-Friday (except public holidays) from 8am-5pm or Suvarnabhumi Airport, 0-2134-5351-2 Monday-Friday (except public holidays) from 8am-4pm.
