NOD TO THAI-TAIWAN MASTER PROGRAMME ON ROBOTICS IN THAILAND

The Cabinet has approved an Education Ministry proposal for Amata University to introduce a Master of Science programme on robotics in Thailand in conjunction with National Taiwan University (NTU), one of the world's leading higher educational institutes in this field.

Amata University is situated in Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate in Chonburi province, which is part of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), where a new generation of industries are being promoted by the government, including robotics and electric vehicles.

According to government spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd, NTU is ranked the world's top 23rd university in the field of robotics.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet has granted approval to a Finance Ministry proposal to amend rules and regulations on tax incentives for multinational companies to set up regional headquarters in Thailand, so that only research and development (R&D) work done in Thailand is qualified for the incentives.

Previously, some multinational firms exploited the loopholes in the policy to reduce their tax liability and the country did not get any benefits in return as far as indigenous R&D work is concerned.

Sansern said the government's policy is to promote R&D work in the country.
