Taiwan’s Smart solutions firm eyes Thai base for region

ICP DAS, a Taiwan-based industrial computer products and data acquisition systems firm, plans to set up a branch office in Thailand in a couple years as its Southeast Asian hub.



The firm expects revenue growth of 10-15 per cent in the Thai market this year.

Frank Cheng, vice president of sales and marketing, said the firm is a hardware and solutions provider.

It offers various smart solutions such as smart manufacturing solutions for the automobile industry. 

The manufacturing process can be monitored with the simple deployment of a controller and sensor on site in the control centre. 

Another solution is an intelligent building system that offers advance access functionality of a video intercom station, electromechanical, firefighting, smart power and water monitoring, and building leakage monitoring. 

The system can save an average 10-20 per cent of operating costs. 

The firm started providing its business via system integrators in Thailand 10 years ago. 

It now is considering setting up an office in Thailand in a couple years to reach out to other countries in the region such as Malaysia, Laos and Vietnam.

“Our business in Thailand has high potential for growth, especially in manufacturing and agriculture, which need smart solutions to support their business. 

“We also provide customised solutions and original equipment manufacturing to support the demand of customers. 

“Manufacturing is moving towards the industrial Internet of Things, also known as Industry 4.0. 

“Factory operators are looking at how to connect sensors and devices combined with the data they generate so that it would benefit their operations, efficiency and quality of products,” he said. 

The firm will go beyond its focus on agriculture and manufacturing to cover the solar cell, transportation and building automation businesses. 

It is looking for partners to expand its base in the country.

Asian countries accounted for 24 per cent of its worldwide revenue in the first half of this year. 

The firm spends about 20-30 per cent of sales on research and development each year for innovations and solutions.
