Mazda displays latest-generation models at Los Angeles Auto Show
Mazda has taken the wraps off two new models at the Los Angeles Auto Show – one of the most influential motor shows in the world – and Thai fans can expect to see them being offered here soon.
The Japanese automaker unveiled the CX-3, its first crossover SUV, and the latest-generation MX-5 roadster, at the show on Wednesday, along with the minor-change versions of the CX-5 and Mazda6.
The all-new Mazda MX-5 will be available in Thailand with the innovative, fiuel-efficient Skyactiv-G 2.0-litre petrol engine and Skyactiv automatic transmission. It has shed more than 100kg relative to the outgoing model.
Mazda is also set to stage the world premiere of its new Mazda2 sedan at the Thailand International Motor Expo, to be held at Muang Thong Thani from November 29 to December 10.
The Mazda2 will be powered by the 1.5-litre clean diesel engine, allowing it to qualify for the government’s Eco-Car Phase 2 programme.
Although the new model will be displayed at the Mazda booth, only “pre-orders” will be accepted as official sales will commence early next year.
The retail pricing of the latest Mazda2 has not been announced yet, but many are hoping the promotional 17-per-cent excise tax will help keep price tags down.
Like its new-generation siblings, the Mazda CX-3 at the Los Angeles Auto Show comes with the full Skyactiv technology line-up, including two Skyactiv-G 2.0-litre petrol engines and the new Skyactiv-D 1.5-litre clean diesel, coupled with six-speed Skyactiv-Drive or Skyactiv-MT gearboxes. The latest model is offered with front- or all-wheel drive.
The CX-3 features the eye-catching “KODO – Soul of Motion” design and packaging. The automaker says the equipment has been tailored for a young, modern clientele, who will enjoy Mazda’s characteristic fun-to-drive responsiveness and handling.
Mazda is also presenting its 2015 Mazda CX-5 SUV and the 2015 Mazda6 flagship model at the Los Angeles show. Both award-winning models come with MZD Connect, Mazda’s smartphone connectivity system, Active Driving Display, a head-up display, and the latest i-ActivSense active safety technology, including Adaptive LED Headlights (ALH) – a Mazda first.
