Two shows next month expected to accelerate auto sales

The slowing auto market is expected to be given a turbo boost next month with the staging of two events in Bangkok.

The Fast Auto Show Thailand 2014 will be held at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Bitec) from July 2-6, followed by the 6th Bangkok Imported Car & Used Car Show at Muangthong Thani from July 18-27.

Auto sales in Thailand have plummeted since the start of the year. Just last month, sales plunged by 37 per cent to 69,681 vehicles compared to the same month last year, according to the Auto Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries. From January to May auto sales totaled 367,112 vehicles, nose-diving by 42.2 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year.

Fifteen automakers along with used-car dealers will take part in the Fast Auto Show. Organisers said the show's concept is "FAST", making it fast for buyers to make a decision and get financing.

Vice organising chairman of new cars Chalatchai Paphatphong said the overall auto market during this midyear period is still seeing demand for new vehicles as automakers have been consistently launching fresh, new models.

"Automakers will join forces to launch new models at the Fast Auto Show," he revealed. "That includes the Suzuki Celerio, Honda Jazz and Nissan Navara."

Citroen, Deva, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Skoda, Suzuki, Toyota, Kia, DongFeng and Subaru will take part in the event.

Vice organising chairman of used cars Asadavut Asasappakij said the highlight of the used-car market at the show is an unprecedented "Buy Back Campaign".

"Many special campaigns offering low interest, lower down payment and a 'long-time' installment period are also available. A special price campaign for used cars from 2008 is offered with prices starting below Bt300,000," he explained.

Six major used-car dealers are also participating. They include Tor Auto Car, Visarn Auto Car, 54 Niwat, Yo Ratchada, Kong Charoenyont and Best Service. All used cars at the show are selected and certified by auto critic Pattanadesh Asasappakij.

"Fast Auto Show Thailand 2014 has achieved great success in the past two years," Asadavut said. "This is the third edition that guarantees quality and trustworthiness, and its special, in terms of prices and promotions. This is a good opportunity for consumers to discover a good quality new car or the best used cars in today's market."

A large number of promotions are offered from both exhibitors and the show organiser.

Meanwhile, the Bangkok Imported Car & Used Car Show is being supported by the Grand Prix Bike Show to serve a wider group of visitors. Apart from 10 motorcycle brands, there will be various activities to entertain visitors including the Big Bike Hot Model Show.

Jaturont Komolmis, chairman of the two events, said medium-sized luxury cars are still in demand.

"Buyers in this segment have purchasing power and are not as much affected as buyers in the lower segment. Our event is expected to help create momentum in this market and contribute to the recovery of the automobile market," he said.

At least 1,000 cars will be offered at the show on a rotational basis.

Imported car dealers such as F1, Teddy Auto, Eton, BRG Group, AG Car, BMW and TNP will be participating, while used-car dealers include Benz NK, Benz Amorn, Rolls-Royce, Mini Next, Master Certified Used Car, Best Service, Triple M and AP 19.

Another specialty at this year's event is an integrated health-zone area for a "better quality lifestyle", offering services such as healthcare courses from leading hospitals along with body treatments.

Jaturont said automobile dealers and healthcare providers plan to offer attractive promotions. Besides individual promotions from each dealer, the organisers will provide promotions for those who place orders.
