Trade promos to propel exports in second-half

The International Trade Promotion Department is organising more than 120 promotional projects and many other activities in a bid to drive the country's export growth in the second half of the year.

Director-general Nuntawan Sakuntanaga yesterday said that to achieve export expansion of at least 3.5 per cent this year, the department would arrange many activities in the Kingdom's key overseas markets.

"After the Commerce Ministry and private enterprises sent an explanatory letter to create understanding with trade partners in accordance with the [instructions of the] National Council for Peace and Order, there were many good responses from both [foreign] enterprises and trade partners. The department will continue to promote trade growth after this [response showing] good confidence, in order to help increase trade opportunities," she said.

Under the department's plan, which runs through to the end of September, 126 trade-promotion projects are being arranged. They will be focused on a range of key export products, from the agriculture and foods sectors, industrial goods, and fashion and beauty products.

The agency will also organise trade fairs in Thailand and overseas, with small and medium-sized enterprises being encouraged to join international trade fairs as much as possible.

This month, the department will organise a trade mission to Iran and Turkey to promote halal foods, while in Brunei it will promote home decorative items.

It will promote furniture and heavy industry in the Philippines, and the focus in Singapore will be on fashion goods and clothing.

In Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates and Japan, automobiles and auto parts, machinery, construction materials and home decorative items will be promoted.

Next month, the department will send trade missions to and arrange business-matching activities in Japan, Myanmar, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal.

The effort will be concentrated on fashion and heavy industry in these markets.

It will also organise a "Thailand Week" in Vietnam and Laos, as well as trade exhibitions covering Japan, Myanmar, France, India, Vietnam, Panama and the United States.
