Thai restaurateurs fret about AEC
The Asean Economic Community (AEC) could pave the way for restaurateurs in other Asean nations, amid fierce competition, said a Thai restaurateur.
Thaniwan Kulmongkol, chairwoman of the Thai Restaurants Association, said that these investors are likely to enter Thailand, encouraged by the growing taste for international cuisine among Thai consumers.
Foreign restaurant brands now control about Bt100 billion of the food business, which is estimated to be valued at Bt669 billion this year, she said.
Japanese and Korean restaurants are proved a hit to Thai consumers, despite the prices, she added.
