Thai Airways International is running its biggest promotion of the year, "Luck Is in the Air", aimed at boosting domestic sales by 1-3 per cent for the next five months.
Wiwat Piyawiroj, vice president for sales and distribution in Thailand and Indochina, said the campaign, which started yesterday, would run until October 30. Passengers who buy a round-trip domestic or international ticket from THAI or Thai Smile Airways could participate in the “Luck Is in the Air” lucky draw.
In the first lucky draw, 40 pairs of THAI Royal Silk Class air tickets will be given away over 10 weeks. The first draw will be on August 22, and the final one on October 24.
Winners of the first draw may also be eligible for the grand prize worth Bt1 million. That winner can fly to any destination with THAI or Thai Smile within one year.
Wiwat expects the campaign to help boost sales in the domestic market by 1-3 per cent over the original target from now through December.
THAI is facing a difficult time as many low-cost airlines are offering extra-low fares to attract customers during low season. The airline recently projected a loss for this year.
He added the company once ran a major campaign by giving up to 20,000 free tickets to foreign passengers in order to encourage them to visit Thailand again. That offer was part of tourism recovery plans and rebuilt confidence during a crisis. This time, the airline aims at the domestic market in a bid to regain market share from budget airlines.
Wiwat said the airline was considering offering a two-month promotion or similar campaign during the low season next year.
