Caretaker Industry Minister Prasert Boonchaisuk threatened to file charges against the operator of Praeksa garbage dump site in Samut Prakan.

After the Cabinet meeting today, he said that the operator is liable to charges related to the Factory Act BE2535.
If any hazardous waste is found at the dump site, the operator will also be charged under the Hazardous Substances Act BE 2535. Under the Article 73, the operator faces a 2-year jail term and a fine of Bt200,000.
He said that the issue was discussed at the Cabinet meeting, and Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra assigned the ministries of Interior, Industry, Public Health and Natural Resources and Environment to take care of the matter.
Prasert said that the provincial industry office's information showed that the dump site is operated by Kromphol Samutsakhon under the licence which expired in 2011.
There was speculation that industrial waste from Bangpoo Industrial Estate was dumped at the site. Due to the fire breaking out on Sunday afternoon, thick smoke has blanketed Bang Na and surrounding areas, producing a bad smell of burning plastic.
