The Onyx Hospitality Group Foundation through its "Baht for a Better Life" (BBL) programme recently partnered with Hi Tech Apparel to hold a basketball clinic at SahaThanakarn Krungthep Border Patrol Police School in Sangkhla Buri, Kanchanaburi province.

“Dreams Come True” is an initiative of BBL that raises funds to host a special meal annually for students of seven Border Patrol Police Schools and to offer learning tools or facilities for these underprivileged children. This year, the foundation offered lunch and installed a basketball system for children at the school.
Through the partnership with Hi Tech Apparel, volunteers from various properties managed by Onyx Hospitality Group received support from two talented players of Chon Buri Hi-Tech Basketball Club, Attaporn Lertmalaiporn, Asian Basketball League “most valuable player” in 2013, and Nontapop ViVattanapongpetch, a former member of the national basketball team, to instruct and inspire the children on the principles of basketball, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Chon Buri Hi-Tech Basketball Club is currently one of the most decorated teams in Thailand, having won many championships at both the collegiate and professional levels. Together, the players have shared their skills and passion for the sport with the 236 students at the school and arranged a two-day workshop where the children learned basic basketball skills and techniques. The teachers were also given instruction to ensure the continuation of the programme.
“We hope that this initiative will be the first of many, where we can bring some excitement, discipline and passion for sport to the children of the schools under our BBL programme,” said Lisa Thomas, director of CSR for Onyx Hospitality Group.
“We aim to introduce initiatives that help build life skills, and we feel that by teaching basketball to these underprivileged children, we are providing a fun activity, whilst also building confidence and instilling discipline and great teamwork skills.”
For the 2013 festive season, the Dreams Come True initiative provided special meals and treats to hundreds of children at the seven Border Patrol Police Schools in the rural areas of Thailand. By purchasing cards hanging on the trees of Amari and Mosaic Collection hotels, guests can help to provide children with the chance of making their dreams come true. Donations of children’s books and toys in good condition are also encouraged.
