Nokia alleged of IP violation

In an unusual move, global mobile phone maker Nokia is facing an allegation that it violates the intellectual property protection.

The lawsuit was filed by a Thai software company - Globetech Ltd, a subsidiary of IT conglomerate CDG Group - at the Intellectual Property and International Trade Court.

Nokia (Thailand) and partner - Navteq - were named for allegedly using Globetech’s digital map data without permission. Both are asked to pay compensation worth Bt540 million.

Globetech General Manager Wichai Saenghirunwattana said that the company found that its digital map data appeared in Nokia's Ovi Map without permission. The company has continuously collected the map data of Thailand for 20 years.

Navteq is the provider of Nokia (Thailand)’s Ovi Map.
