No bird flu outbreak in Thailand: Commerce official
A Commerce Ministry's official announced Wednesday that there was no spread of bird flu in Thailand.
Panjit Pissawong, deputy director-general of the Foreign Trade Department, said that following social media-based rumours of the incident, investigaton by the Livestock Department and the association of Thai chicken exporters showed a negative result.
"There’s definitely no bird flu outbreak in Thailand," she said, adding that the Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives Ministry has effectively suppressed the disease since 2008.
She also noted that several countries have resumed frozen chicken imports from Thailand, after a freeze from 2004, including Russia, South Africa, Malaysia, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, the European Union and Singapore.
